Raya is around the corner, if the ulamas spot the moon (provided no cloudy nights) raya should be on this coming Saturday. Time runs so fast, just feel like puasa started yesterday. Most of the Muslim frens will balik Kampung. So does Christine. During my younger days, every raya i went back to my hometown (KB). We bought new baju raya, clothes and shoes. But now as u get older, raya is just like any other day. Some of my frens say that everyday is raya, if u have plenty of money (bloodyshit again about money - Gossh, can we have things in life that doesnt need money???). True enough if u r rich all frens will come to u. Even in kampungs during raya time, young kids will visit relatives’ houses. If u serve them with kuih, they will say, they already ate lots of kuih instead they will ask u for duit raya.
During raya most of them will go to mosque for Raya prayers and then visit the cemetery and recite surah yassin to loved ones. There on they will visit all the close relatives and frens. If u r a young kid u will compete with ur frens to collect the largest amount of duit raya. Some will lay down and watch all the special raya programmes on tv. This raya most of them will also watch Sheikh Muzzafar’s trip to space (direct telecast on astro channel 588 – promo ker ni). During raya visits, the trip to space will also be the topic of discussions among the older ones apart from the up coming general election next year (betul ker election next year, some say it will be this year).
This raya will be a short one for me coz I had to leave for New York on 20/10 to attend a conference on Finance for Development at the UN. It will be a long journey coz will stop over at Heathrow then to JFK. The conference will assemble officials from all the developed, developing and under develop countries to discuss about financing development and the achievement of Millennium Development Goals (MDG) launched in September, 2000. The MDG has eight goals i.e. eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, achieve universal primary education, promote gender equality and empower women, reduce child mortality, improve maternal health, combat HIV/AIDs and other diseases, ensure environment sustainability and develop a global partnership for development. Malaysia has made great progress in achieving the MDGs except for HIV/AIDs where the numbers are still increasing.
I still wonder this kind of conferences that have being frequently held will really benefit those poor countries. Here, all the world super powers meet and design programs for the poor. Do they know what the poor really need and want? Nice and fantastic programs were developed but how about implementation and financing? There are also other hidden agenda among the super powers both for political and economic reasons. Whatever, I will write again on this trip to New York once I’m back to the office…

Well, of course sillytoe will not go anywhere coz there is someone from somewhere came to see her, to celebrate RAYA with her, rite?? Don't you agree with me??
Anyway as for preity, as usual, she goes back to her Kampung...coz she has no where else to go..
